A veneer is a dental restoration designed to cover the front of the tooth. These restorations are intended to improve your smile's appearance by hiding various cosmetic concerns, such as permanent discoloration and chips or cracks in your teeth. The veneer may be all-ceramic, porcelain, gold, or another metal alloy at Advanced Dental Solutions Inc.
The Veneer Placement Procedure
Placing veneers requires two appointments at our dental office. During the first appointment, we will remove a small amount of enamel from the affected teeth and shape the tooth appropriately to accommodate the veneer before we take an impression to send to the laboratory for fabrication. After we receive the custom veneers from the lab, you will return for your second appointment. Before applying the veneer, our dentist will clean the tooth again and lightly buff the surface of it to ensure the veneer adheres appropriately. Then, they will use an adhesive and place the veneer onto the tooth. The dentist will carefully press down on the veneer to ensure it adheres to your tooth. After the procedure, no additional steps are required, but your dentist may advise you to reduce your coffee intake and avoid staining foods or beverages for the first few days. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last more than twenty years.
The Benefits of Veneers
While whitening treatments may be effective for some patients, they aren’t always successfully removing stains and discoloration from teeth. This is because some types of staining are below the surface of the enamel. In these cases, your cosmetic dentist may recommend porcelain veneers. These thin shells are custom-made to fit over the front surface of teeth to hide imperfections such as stains, chips, cracks, gaps, and more. In addition, veneers can also be used to close small gaps between teeth and cover up minor misalignments. Patients with conditions such as crooked or gapped teeth should consider getting veneers to improve the appearance of their smiles.
Patients who get porcelain veneers are often delighted with their results. Not only do they improve their smile, but they can also improve self-confidence. Porcelain is a hard material resistant to staining, so patients don’t have to worry about their teeth becoming discolored again once veneers are placed. A patient who elects to get these restorations made can expect them to last for many years with proper care.
